This position lives unusually close to both the customer and the code.
Monq's Forward Deployed Engineers work directly with enterprise procurement teams, understand the problem in its real operating environment, design a solution, build it, deploy it, and stay close enough to see whether it actually works.
A major technical focus is the infrastructure feeding Monq's autonomous negotiation agents. Enterprise procurement data can include contracts, vendor records, pricing histories, purchasing systems, documents, event streams, and other datasets that arrive in very different formats and at substantial scale.
Engineers will build Python backend services and contract-processing pipelines, then connect them to platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Coupa, and GEP. Integrations can involve REST or GraphQL APIs, SFTP feeds, Kafka or Pulsar event streams, and other enterprise interfaces.
The data itself may be multimodal and span terabytes. It needs to be transformed, indexed, validated, and made available to AI agents for contract intelligence, supplier benchmarking, negotiation analytics, and real-time decision support.
Unlike many customer-facing engineering roles, ownership does not stop once an API works. The engineer may take a feature from architecture through code, infrastructure, Terraform, CI/CD, rollout, observability, and ultimately training the customer's procurement team on how to use what was built.
Docker and Kubernetes are part of the production environment, while security, compliance, auditability, and enterprise access requirements have to be treated as first-class engineering concerns rather than added after deployment.
Lightweight frontend work can also appear when a customer workflow requires a new interface or visualization. This makes the position closer to a technically deep product generalist than a narrow backend integration role.
Monq is looking for experienced software engineers who are comfortable with Python, modern web technologies, cloud infrastructure, databases, and distributed data systems. Experience with AI is useful but not strictly required; strong engineers can work alongside Monq's AI specialists while developing deeper expertise in agentic systems.
The role is a good fit for someone who likes ambiguity, customer interaction, and end-to-end technical responsibility—and who would rather solve a real enterprise problem than work indefinitely on an isolated platform component.
