Description
Pinecone is redesigning parts of its developer platform around a new kind of user: software agents that consume APIs, tools, and infrastructure directly.
The Experience team owns a wide surface including APIs, client libraries, authentication, observability, revenue systems, SDKs, and web experiences. This Senior/Staff engineer will help rethink those layers so autonomous agents can interact with Pinecone as naturally and reliably as human developers.
One major area is the agent interface itself. The engineer may work on MCP integration, agent-oriented APIs, protocols, SDK behavior, or tooling that makes Pinecone easier to use inside automated workflows. That work spans backend architecture all the way to CLI and web surfaces, so the position is broader than a conventional frontend or backend specialty.Pinecone also expects engineers to use AI as part of how software gets built. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and similar systems are treated as engineering tools rather than optional productivity experiments, and the team wants to establish workflows that multiply output without sacrificing quality.
Candidates should generally have several years of software engineering experience, strong API or SDK design skills, web-development ability, cloud experience, and good judgment around developer-facing abstractions. Familiarity with MCP, agent frameworks, tool use, orchestration, or agent-to-agent communication is especially valuable.
The role carries substantial autonomy over strategy and implementation. Instead of simply receiving feature specifications, senior engineers participate in deciding how AI agents should interact with Pinecone in the first place.
Pinecone currently offers both US Remote and New York City versions of this position. This Trainety entry uses the US Remote version.
